Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help
By now you've seen the photos of the disaster happening in Houston, TX and surrounding areas as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Homes flooded, cars submerged, nursing home residents stranded in waist deep water, neighbors and rescue groups evacuating people and pets. Most of us are trying to figure out how we can help. We put ourselves in the shoes of someone who has lost everything and we try to figure out what they might need. Before doing anything, take a deep breath and a moment to learn about how you can really help.
Every Kid in a Park Program Gives You Free Admission to National Parks
Are you thinking about a family adventure to a national park this year? Thanks to the Every Kid in a Park program from the Department of the Interior, any family with a U.S. fourth grade student (or homeschool equivalent) can get free admission to national parks. What is even better is that the Pass covers family and friends too!
Homeschoolers: Receive 25% Educator's Discount at Barnes & Noble on Weekends in August!
If you don't already have one, you'll want to get your Barnes & Noble Educator's Discount Card. Homeschoolers who have a Barnes & Noble Educator's Discount Card receive a 20% discount off of many items throughout the year. However, during weekends in August, that discount goes up to 25%. August weekends are part of a special promotion program to provide educators with an additional 5% savings.
Homeschool National Honor Society Kickoff Meeting
Did you know that there's a National Honor Society for homeschool students? The Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Eta Sigma Alpha (ZENHS) serves homeschool students in the greater Charlotte area and will hold its Kickoff Meeting this week! This is a good opportunity for you and your student(s) to get to know more about what being a part of ZENHS looks like. We'd love to meet you!
Homeschool Driver Education Course for Mecklenburg County Residents
Registration is open NOW for a homeschool only driver education class for Mecklenburg County students. Note this class is open ONLY to Mecklenburg County homeschool residents. Class dates are Monday, August 28th through Friday, September 1, 2017. Class minimum is 30 students, maximum is 35 students.
